In the immediate vicinity are opportunities for walking (many walks straight out of the door without having to use your car), horse riding and cycling in the five valleys which surround Stroud. You could even take a hot air balloon trip – a wonderful way to view the valleys below. In addition close by are golf courses and even a gliding club.
The market town of Cirencester, known as the “Capital of the Cotswolds” is a short drive away. This historic town with its Roman Amphitheatre, Roman Villa (at Chedworth a short drive away) and newly refurbished Corinium Museum is well worth a visit. The parish church, built on the proceeds of the rich wool trade from the surrounding area, is on the central scenic market place, where regular markets (including a Farmers Market) are still held. From here you can wander around the small streets off the market place, where many small, highly original shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants vie for your attention.
Events such as Cheltenham Gold Cup, Gatcombe and Badminton Horse Trials, and the various festivals held in Cheltenham, are also good opportunities for visiting the area.
- Nearby are the local Cotswold towns of Stroud, Minchinhampton, Tetbury and Nailsworth, and also within an hour’s drive are Cheltenham, Gloucester, Bath and Bristol. In the other direction Cotswold attractions such as Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-the Marsh are also within easy reach. With its easy access to the M4, M5 and major ‘A’ roads, Wickham Grange is a central and convenient point from which to visit all areas of the Cotswolds. There is even a bus stop at the bottom of our drive for the more ecologically conscious visitor arriving by coach.
- Our rooms have good sized and extremely comfortable beds – king size in the larger room and large singles in our twin-bedded room; bathrooms have baths with showers, and heated towel rails.
- Breakfast consists of organic and locally sourced produce wherever possible, home-made bread, preserves, etc. The choice is varied including full English breakfast and seasonal specialities.
- Evening meals by prior arrangement.
- Wonderful walks (packed lunch and maps if you wish, and even somewhere to dry your clothes), lovely places to eat, many events and activities, the choice is yours.
There are many excellent and varied places to eat in the vicinity – in all about twenty within a 10-minute drive. They vary from an award-winning restaurant nearby - the Bell at Sapperton - to local country pubs serving good pub food.
